Tour Description
Experience a slice of Australia in one memorable day!
This big day out to the south of Sydney winds through Australia's oldest national park, takes in spectacular coastal scenery along the Grand Pacific Drive, then climbs the sandstone escarpment to return via the forests and farmland of the picturesque Southern Highlands.
Along the way you’ll also get up close to native Australian wildlife, traverse the iconic Sea Cliff Bridge, enjoy lunch (and perhaps a dip in the ocean) at a seaside café, hike through eucalyptus forest to views of a tumbling waterfall, and sample some of the cool climate wines for which the region has developed a reputation.
We'll drive south out of the city along the beaches of Botany Bay and into the Royal National Park. After a cuppa with the local birdlife we'll continue to family-run Symbio wildlife park, active in koala conservation. Here we’ll receive a private koala presentation with a keeper and can have your photo taken with a koala. You’ll also be able to hand-feed kangaroos and wallabies and get up close to other native Australian wildlife.
Next stop is Bald Hill Lookout, a popular launch site for hang gliders and para gliders, which affords sweeping views of the Illawarra coastline and the famous Sea Cliff Bridge. We’ll cross the Sea Cliff Bridge as it sweeps out over the ocean, well clear of the crumbling cliffs to which the old highway clung.
We’ll continue to follow the scenic coastline of the Grand Pacific Drive to Bulli Beach where you’ll enjoy lunch in a café popular with locals that overlooks the beach and an ocean pool. Bring your swimmers for a pre-lunch dip if the sun is out!
In the afternoon we’ll head up through temperate rainforest into the Southern Highlands. An easy hike leads to viewpoints that take in the spectacular sandstone gorges and towering waterfalls of the Morton National Park.
Finally, we’ll drive along country roads to a boutique winery near Berrima, one of Australia’s oldest towns, to taste locally-produced, cool climate wine before returning to Sydney.
The only downside to the day? You won’t want to go home!
